Sawyer's 'Biding Time' beats me for an Aurora!
Congratulations to Robert J Sawyer, that powerhouse of Canadian SF & nice guy to boot, on his 2007 Aurora win for best short form work in English ('Biding Time', also in the Slipsteams antho by DAW). Best English novel went to Children of Chaos, by Dave Duncan.

Awards Finalist: 'Marked Men' nominated for an Aurora Award

I'm a finalist for Canada's Prix Aurora Award for best short form work, for my story 'Marked Men' (in Slipstreams anthology, from DAW).

Thanks for all those who voted for the story, it's great to see my name on that ballot next to James Alan Gardner, Karin Lowachee, Robert J. Sawyer & Hayden Trenholm.

Appearance: Ad Astra Convention, Toronto March 2nd-4th

I'll be at Ad Astra on Saturday and Sunday this year. This is the first con I attended after the long break from SF during my teens and twenties and one of my favorites.

I'll be giving a reading on Saturday morning and taking part on three panels: 'BSG: SF?', 'Real Issues, Imaginary Worlds' and 'Where'd this go in the future?' (I hate it when the spaceman/monster hunter never hits the head)

Flash Fiction at 365tomorrows: My story 'Necessary Fictions' is the day's offering at the online daily fiction project '365 tomorrows':

"You write the way people think, did you know that? Almost like you read people's minds." He reached out a long-fingered hand. "I'm Jack."
David didn't take the hand. "Jack, I'm really -"
"Would you like to? Read minds?"

'Companions' up for Award: Fantastic Companions is up for a 2006 Prix Aurora award for Best Work in English-Other. Best of luck to all the contributors (myself included) in this great anthology edited by Julie Czerneda.
Update:Congrats to Tesseracts 9 for winning!.

'Companions' wins award: Specializing in North American independant and small press, Foreword Magazine gave editor Julie Czerneda and we fellow anthology authors their Silver Prize for Book of the Year (2005).

Audio Review: Brief Glimpses of Somewhere Else reviewed Slipstreams, along with Jim Butcher's Furies of Calderon.

'Glimpses' is a genre podcast, sometimes featuring news, sometimes featuring Daniel Emory's original fiction. A good writer, so his positive comments mean a lot. Thanks for the coverage, Daniel!

News: Slipstreams now shipping!

Wow. Single-digit copies left at Amazon as of May 18th. Very nice!

Review: Mountain Challenge

"...the wolf Aleyku has lost his mate...and his place as leader of the pack, and now seeks only to make his way to the top of the mountain to die... Aleyku's path up the mountain is blocked by a dragon, and their heated, often witty sparring shows us that Aleyku doesn't really desire death as much as he thinks he does.

...a lighthearted celebration of life and companionship... "Mountain Challenge" is the story to read when you're feeling slightly down and looking for something to pick you up again."
